The article discusses children's literature, which is an important part of Kazakh literature. In order to show the development of children's literature and the emergence of special publishing houses, measures taken by the state are noted, the work of independent publishing houses such as «Tentek», «Steppe World & Publishing», «Foliant», «Mazmundama» is presented. The requirements for children's literature specified in the work of Sh. Akhmetov «Essay on the history of Kazakh children's literature» are taken into account and considered in connection with the ideas of publishing houses and the works of publishers. From the point of view of publishers, some factors hindering the development of the publishing industry in Kazakhstan, including publishing houses producing children's literature, are analyzed. Ways to increase the amount of children's literature on bookshelves, improve the quality of the publishing environment and the competitiveness of young editors and proofreaders, and create a reading culture in society are considered.
