Published June 2023
Abstract

Any language develops and it captures all spheres of human activity. Knowing a foreign language, you can understand people from all over the world and this contributes to mutual understanding. Swiss German is distinguished by its variety of dialects, constantly changing due to the influence of the German language of Germany and the English language. With the advent of new technologies, such as SMS, E-Mail, Swiss German, which is spoken mainly in written form, has also entered oral speech, thereby strengthening the commonality of oral language and written speech. Due to the lack of a widespread standard, everyone uses their own spelling. Abbreviations and anglicisms are also often used in text messages to save characters. When comparing the Ger- man literary language and Swiss, similarities and differences in spelling, pronunciation, semantics and grammar of these languages are revealed, which will help in learning Swiss German.
