Publication ethics
Editorial ethics of the journal "Bulletin of Abai University. Philological Sciences series" is a set of rules that guide the decision to publish articles.
The editorial board in its work is guided by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Copyright and Related Rights" dated 10 June 1996 (with amendments and additions as of 13.05.2020).
Ethical Principles and Obligations of the Editorial Board
- The Editorial Board are fully responsible for everything published in the Journal "Bulletin of Abai University. Philological Sciences series".
- The Editorial Board of the journal controls the whole process of work with the articles coming to the editorial office, from the assessment of conformity of materials to the direction of the journal, reviewing, contacts with the author, preparation of the manuscript for printing and up to sending the control copies to the Book Chamber and the national libraries of the country.
- The Editorial Board of the Journal is responsible for maintaining high ethical standards of publication, consistent with accepted and established standards in the scientific community, striving for the improvement and development of the Journal.
- The Editorial Board of the Journal is fully responsible for impartiality in evaluating articles submitted to the Journal, ensuring their blind review and timely informing the authors of its results.
- The Editorial Board of the Journal is fully responsible for the observance of intellectual property rights and limitation of access to manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board. Information about the received and unpublished articles is not subject to disclosure, scientific information contained in them cannot be used for any purposes.
Ethical principles and obligations of editors
- The editor-in-chief and the technical secretary of a scientific journal are independently and autonomously responsible for the decision to publish, relying on cooperation with the editorial board, the International Advisory Board and the editorial board. The scientific content of the work under consideration and its scientific significance should always be considered when deciding on publication. The editor can be guided by the journal's editorial board policy, and current legal requirements regarding libel, copyright, legality and plagiarism.
- The editor-in-chief and technical secretary should evaluate the intellectual content of manuscripts without regard to the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious views, background, citizenship, or political preferences.
- The editor-in-chief, technical secretary and editorial board shall not unnecessarily disclose information about an accepted manuscript to third parties other than authors, reviewers and other advisors.
- Editors should decline to review manuscripts in which, there are conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative and other interactions and relationships with authors, companies and other organizations associated with the manuscript.
- A technical secretary who has provided convincing evidence that statements or conclusions contained in a publication are incorrect should report the matter to the editor-in-chief and publisher for prompt notification of revisions, withdrawal of the publication, expression of concern, and other action appropriate to the situation.
- The editor-in-chief and the publisher, should take adequate response measures to ethical complaints regarding manuscripts or published material reviewed. Such measures generally involve engagement with the authors and arguing the relevant complaint or claim but may also involve engagement with relevant organizations and research centres.
Ethical principles of reviewers' activity
Reviewing is the main part of the publication activity of the journal "Bulletin of Abai University. Philological Sciences series", which aims to ensure the level of publications that meet the standards accepted in the academic community.
Reviewers during the blind review process should be guided by the following ethical principles:
- The reviewer must agree to review only those articles that meet the scope of his/her scientific interests.
- The reviewer must inform the editorial board timely about the conflict of interest.
- The reviewer must respect the review confidentiality and not disclose the article content or review to anyone during or after the review.
- The reviewer has no right to use the information obtained during the review.
- In the process of reviewing the reviewer must be guided by the principles of objectivity and constructiveness and should not allow subjective evaluation of reviewed materials in case of inconsistency of the author's position with his scientific views.
Ethical principles and obligations of authors
- The author is responsible for the authenticity of the materials submitted for publication and the compliance of the published research with ethical and legal standards.
- The author is responsible for the fact that the manuscript submitted for publication is original, is not plagiarized, has not been previously published and has not been submitted for publication to another journal.
- The author is responsible for the fact that the article submitted for publication is not a translated language version of his/her previously published works.
- In interaction with the editorial board, the author must show a respectful attitude appropriate to the academic community and respond correctly to the editorial board's requirements and the reviewers' assessments.
- In case of any misunderstandings in interaction with the editorial board and reviewers' claims or disagreement with the requirements or actions, the author must claim in writing to the editor-in-chief.
