The article examines the features of fragmented syntax in Mikhail Veller’s short story “The Ring” (Kolechko) and the possibilities of using the identified constructions in literary text analysis. The aim of the study is to determine the functions of short and syntactically segmented constructions in particular passages of the work and to develop approaches to their methodological analysis. The text of “The Ring” served as the research material. The qualitative analysis identified elliptical and parcellated constructions, nominative sentences, aposiopesis, and syntactic parallelism. Each example was interpreted with regard to its structural features, relation to the immediate context, and function in organizing semantic emphasis and narrative rhythm. The analysis showed that brevity alone does not determine the function of a phrase: the manner of syntactic segmentation and the position of a construction among adjacent utterances are also significant. Based on these observations, a methodological model is proposed that includes identifying a construction, transforming it where possible, and explaining the function of the original form in the context of the work. The proposed tasks are intended for studying expressive syntax and analyzing literary texts in Russian language and literature classes. The results are limited to one short story, and the effectiveness of the proposed model requires separate pedagogical testing.
