Abstract

The visual component of East Asian comics (manga, manhwa, manhua) constitutes a complex semiotic system in which symbolism plays a key role in image-building and narrative transmission. This research is dedicated to a comparative analysis of the visual components in the works "Attack on Titan" by Hajime Isayama, "Raising The Level Alone" by Chugong, and "The Founder Of The Dark Path" by Moxiang Tongxiu.

As a result of the analysis, three groups of symbols were identified and classified: 1) Specific symbols unique to the comic book format (the shape and color of speech balloons, tail graphics, visual effects for conveying states, emphasis on the depiction of eyes and pupils); 2) Symbols borrowed from traditional culture (the principle of spatial organization "May"; 3) Universal symbols of world art (color symbolism, gestures, metaphors, the technique of mirror characters). It is demonstrated that the visual language of manga, manhwa, and manhua is a synthetic system that combines national traditions, genre techniques, and universal human codes. The conclusion is made that the multi-level symbolism of the visual series serves as a powerful tool for creating profound psychological portraits of characters, conveying complex themes, and ensuring the international perceptibility of the works.
