Abstract

In the modern world, the training system is constantly under development, due to the daily appear-ance of new, more effective teaching methods that allow achieving results many times faster. The meth-odology of teaching a foreign language requires the use of authentic materials so that students can apply their knowledge in practice. Media materials allow students to immerse themselves in the natural envi-ronment of using a foreign language, which means it allows them to communicate at a more natural lev-el, discuss issues of global importance and conduct small talk with representatives of foreign culture and native speakers. The purpose of this research is to study the effectiveness of the use of media materials for the development of communication skills among students of more advanced levels of English lan-guage proficiency (B2, C1). This article describes the results of a pedagogical experiment with students of the 2nd year of the Faculty of Philology in the direction "Foreign language: 2 foreign languages". The results of the conducted pedagogical research have valuable practical significance, because they can be used in further scientific works on a given topic. As a result of the preparation of this article, it was found that the use of media materials has a positive effect on the development of students' communica-tion skills, because their fluency of speech, and the ability to maintain a conversation on a given topic increases, fewer grammatical and lexical errors in English speech are made.
